What happens when a room is filled with people who are endlessly curious?
Rebel Book Club is coming to Jakarta for the very first time! We are doing an intimate pop-up gathering for people who love and breathe big ideas, great conversations, and meeting inquisitive people who always ask the ultimate 5W+1H!
If you're a voracious non-fiction reader or simply people who enjoy ngobrol haha hihi, you are very welcome! This is not a place for academic debates, just vibes and good people.
For this month's theme is... Modern Love!
This August, we'll explore how modern relationships are shaped by psychology, culture, and evolution. Together, we'll read and unpack ideas from Paul Eastwick's Bonded by Evolution: The New Science of Love and Connection, including the concept of the evoscript—the outdated evolutionary narratives that continue to influence dating, gender, and the way we connect with one another.
Penasaran gak sih? Come join us!
What to expect from us?
- A relaxed, facilitated discussion around this month's reading
- Conversations with people from different backgrounds, industries, and experiences
- Plenty of time to mingle before and after the discussion - so don't go home yet!
You might be wondering... Why Jakarta?
Well, because we can! After all, Jakarta is a vibrant and ambitious city where people build business, create art, and sometimes go through existential crises. Which is why we always flock together, looking for communities. It's the perfect place for a Rebel Book Club community!
This pop-up is our way of testing the waters. If enough curious people show up, we'd love to make Rebel Book Club Jakarta a regular!

Known for his nomadic lifestyle and inspiring ventures, Albert founded Unseen Tours, a social enterprise in London. One of Rebel Book Club's original members, Albert is bringing all he's learned from over 100 rebel non-fiction reads (so far!) to Australia.
Most impactful RBC moment: "Meeting Emmy Award winning investigative journalist Ramitha Navai in person to discuss her book City of Lies, and delving deep into Tehran's underworld and the impact of morality laws and censorship in contemporary Iran. Ramitha was one of RBC's very first authors to come to the club's monthly meetup and she set a very high bar for how engaging and impactful an author's presence can be for the book club."
Albert's top non-fiction recommendations:
1) Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer
2) The Art of Gathering by Priya Parker
3) Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker
