Happy 5th, Rebel Book Club!

May 2020: Shaping Paradise

Following a calm and insightful mid-month event ‘Questions of Modern Spirituality‘, our May 2020 meet-up marked the 5th anniversary of Rebel Book Club!

Whilst continuing our theme of ‘Paradise’, we heard Ben and Ben talk about where it all began, in blissful Balinese Paradise…

Like all great birthday parties, it was action-packed!

  • A Raspberry Sorbet Spritz from Rich, Mr. Mix + Muddle!
  • Our RBC Originals – Rebel Readers who’ve been here from the start!
  • A wonderful meditation from fellow member Rach Allan
  • A Q+A with Jevan Pradas (our May author) led by Ben K, Ben S-G and our fabulous Bristol host Rachel Hearne
  • Time to hangout and talk about how we might ‘Shape Paradise’ in our own lives and communities…

Meet our RBC Originals!

We’re celebrating the Original Rebels. A lovely moment to introduce our young-old-timers to our new members. Without further ado, introducing Jasmine (est. April 2016), Miles (est. June 2016), Albie (est. October 2015), Chris (est. Jan 2019) + Ava (est. July 2015)…

Hear how they got involved with RBC, what their favourite RBC reads have been, what they do in their spare time (i.e. when they’re not reading non-fiction, you know work and stuff!) and some scandalous stories from their time with us…

Connect with, support + share their projects…

Meet May’s Author

As many of you may already know, we hosted a Q+A with Jevan Pradas. You may also know, members found his book hugely contentious in its language used to describe interactions with women, problematic undertones of ableism and shortsighted conclusions about the ‘ideal body shape’. Whilst we did our upmost to give May’s author the chance to respond to our criticisms, we didn’t feel he was able to grasp or acknowledge the complexity and magnitude of the themes we had picked up on.

As such, we have taken the decision not to feature the interview in the blog, or be involved in linking back to the book and affecting SEO / algorithms any further. If you would like to catch up with the interview or his written responses, you can find it on our private network under the May topic.

However, we would love to celebrate our wonderful RBC Bristol host, Rachel Hearne. Rachel took on the topic and interview like the true pro that she is! You can see Ben K, Ben S-G and Rachel reflect on their conversation here…
