Campfire Conversations ft. Alex Barker & Pirates | How to Be More Pirate

“Being more pirate is for everyone, everywhere: it doesn’t matter how diverse and different our interests and situations are, there is always something we can do, and there is a community waiting to salute your efforts.”

alex barker – pirate captain

We’re a fan and friends of the Be More Pirate team and movement: the creative, passionate approach to making positive changes in the world. So it was brilliant to welcome Alex and her pirate friends to our virtual campfire to share their stories, escapades and what they’ve learnt along the way.

Tej Samani got kicked out of 3 schools then became a pro tennis player before setting up a radical education programme to challenge mainstream education. What started as a quick chat about Tej’s journey turned into a powerful, Ted-like talk about the future of education and how we can fix its inequalities. Tej is a rocketship.

We then met Deana Wildgood, who’s trying to start a revolution in Coalville, in the East Midlands of England, to empower communities and buy back local buildings. A classic gross-roots community builder, Deana shares how the pirate framework changed so much for her.

“If you want to change the world you have to throw a better party than those destroying it.”

Jim edmondson – TAKK surf

As a bonus we were lucky to be joined by Alan Moore, author of Do Build.

The world of business is changing. The single pursuit of profit at any cost has been replaced by a desire to build companies that create a better future and enjoy commercial success. Alan draws on his years of research into some of the most pioneering and progressive businesses on the planet. By speaking to their purpose-driven founders, he discovers that it is possible to lead with generosity, have a transparent supply chain, design products and services that are considered and joyful, and create a company culture where individuals flourish. By sharing examples of best practice, Moore invites us to create a different type of business: one that will regenerate and restore our economy, our environment, and our civilisation. Are you ready to build a new reality?
